What do lip fillers feel like?

Lip fillers are a popular cosmetic treatment used by people across the globe to achieve their desired lip shape and volume.

The stunning results that can be achieved via a lip filler treatment are plain for all to see (just take a look at some of our before and after photos if you aren’t convinced) but many people are curious about what it actually feels like to get a lip injection and are understandably reluctant to proceed with a treatment until they have a better idea of what to expect.

What exactly does it feel like to have filler injected into your lips, and what does it feel like afterwards?

In this article we will look at all the sensations that you can expect before and after a lip filler treatment.

Anaesthetic application

Depending on the nature of the lip filler treatment, a practitioner may or may not decide to apply either a numbing cream or a local anaesthetic to minimise the discomfort you feel. Of course, whilst this does keep any pain from the actual lip filler to an absolute minimum, it does mean that you may need to put up with a bit of tingling whilst the anaesthetic is applied and a numb sensation until it wears off.

If you have ever been to the dentist and had your cheek and mouth go numb whilst work is donw you will be aware of the sensation to expect in your lips at this time.

Needle prick

Even once a numbing agent has been applied you may still feel a small pinch whilst the filler is injected. Many lip fillers actually include an anaesthetic agent of their own alongside the initial numbing cream to further minimise discomfort. Some people describe the prick as sharp and slightly uncomfortable, others ass a barely noticeable sensation, and others still don’t feel it at all.

Filler injection

Once the filler itself is injected, you may feel a sense of fullness or pressure in the lips but this normally subsides during the procedure itself, if not shortly after. It is not something that you will have to live with until the filler wears off. Eventually, the lip injections Glasgow will wear off as they are normally made from a substance called hyaluronic acid which occurs naturally in the human body.

For those who are worried about the safety of lip fillers, the fact that hyaluronic acid based fillers are used should be a major weight off their shoulders. This substance can easily be dissolved if there are any minor complications of side effects.

Side effects

The vast majority report no noticeable side effects following a lip filler treatment beyond a mild swelling or tenderness around the injection site.

This is completely normal and is something that should disappear shortly after your treatment, usually within a couple of days.

Once any post-filler treatment has subsided, your lips should feel soft and subtle to touch and no movement of them, be it smiling or talking should cause any form of pain.
